Biography

Deanna Dickins is a professional freelance make-up artist who specializes in wedding, bridal and formal make-up. With over six years of experience, she founded her company, Deanna Dickins Make-Up Art, in June 2009 with the help of the Summer Company Program. Deanna’s approach to make-up art is clean and elegant, emphasizing the natural beauty of her clients. She commutes on location in Toronto and the GTA providing make-up application as well as a tutorial, tailoring her product suggestions to suit the individual needs of her clients.

Deanna learned make-up art from her mother, Joanne; a professional make-up artist for film and television. Joanne has been in the make-up business for over 25 years and taught Deanna the basics of make-up at a young age. As she grew older, Deanna learned basic special effects and make-up for theatre and photography. She then developed her own style for formal and evening make-up emphasizing the eyes. The look is clean and polished without using too much product, allowing ones natural beauty to show through. Since starting her company, Deanna has experienced prom make-up for students and wedding make-up for future brides. In the past, she worked as a make-up artist on multiple school shows at York Mills C.I. high school and practiced minor special effects make-up.

In addition to creating elegant looks for special occasions, Deanna offers instruction and application at make-up parties for teens and adults. The tutorial includes tips for healthy skin, suggestions of the best make-up products on the market (including when to splurge and save on products,) and how to create a 5-minute face and evening look. She demonstrates the look on party attendees showing the ease of professional make-up application without make-up looking too heavy and over-done.

As a life science student at the University of Toronto, Deanna is conscious of the ingredients in make-up. She uses all high-quality products that are safe for sensitive skin and have not been tested on animals.

Deanna has been an active member of her school community at the University of Toronto. For the 2008-2009 school year she served as Vice President for the philanthropic student group, Party for a Cause, raising over $15,000 for the charity Right to Play. In the previous year, she was a promoter for Party for a Cause while serving as co-social chair at Victoria College at U of T. Her role on the Victoria College student council required her to organize events for the student body, reaching over 4,000 students. Deanna will continues to be an active member at U of T by offering her make-up services campus groups requiring make-up for charity fashion shows. She also hopes to arrange a make-up tutorial for teens in North York in the upcoming school year.
